Catching Up On All Hallow’s Eve

Whew — what with interview and blockbuster announcements, we at Fleen have neglected some of the happenings in our corner of the interwebs. For example: Zudacomics Zudalaunched yesterday, with a couple of Zudahiccups that seem to be worked out now.

Others have commented on how the initial batch of contestants seem to predominantly be creators with a history of working with DC, which may be coincidence, or it may be people that don’t have a problem with the Zudacontract’s terms because they’re used to them.

That being said, there’s some very good work there, and you ought to check it out, but be prepared to hate the interface. It’s not that I object to Flash per se, but holy mother of all that’s good and pure that’s a slow load. If you’re not on broadband, forget it.

Lightning round!

I AGREE, THE LOADING SICKS! THERE IS NOTHING WEB COMIC ABOUT ZUDA AND WHAT’S UP WITH THE WEIRD FORMAT, IT’S NOT A WEB SITE WITHIN A WEBSITE. IT’S A COMIC WITHIN A WEBSITE. SO ODD, ANYWAYS I DO HOPE OTHER LOOK AT IT ATLEAST ONCE. MAKE YOUR OWN OPINION.

DAVE

PS. GO MARVEL!

The Zuda pictures seem to be loading at quite a high resolution, most suited for viewing in the fullscreen mode – the lines look resize-grainy in the regular mode. And it looks like the interface preloads several pages at once, so it’s little wonder it takes time. Maybe they’ll adjust this with feedback.

Agree that the interface is slow and a bit clunky. And while the comics are very professional, it seems like typical print comic fare. Nothing exciting.

Very safe professional corporate choices which was to be expected, I guess. The creators are extremely talented though, also as expected. Zuda went out and found these folks so they would be working with known quantities right out of the gate.

I hope it will get wilder as the editors sort through the slushpile. I really feel sorry for the first line of readers.

The format is rather odd; a book in these dimensions would seem awkward to me. Like Greg above, I read a few of the comics there and thought there was nothing out of the ordinary, nothing particularly daring or new. More of the same, which I guess was to be expected. It really felt like a corporation’s take on something they don’t totally understand. ‘Safe’ is a good word to describe Zuda so far, at least for the reader. The interesting part to me was how blunt some of the comments were. These were people with demands and expectations and they weren’t at all afraid to voice their opinions.
